The effective regurgitant orifice area (EROA) is calculated by using color flow Doppler and continuous wave Doppler. The proximal flow convergence of the jet (see below) combined with the maximum velocity will yield this area in cm2. This is referred to as proximal isovelocity surface area (PISA).
