The Basics

A pulmonary embolism (PE) is a blood clot in the lung that creates a blockage; flow is obstructed and oxygen saturation can be negatively effected. This diagnosis is a common medical emergency and echocardiography plays an important rule in recognizing hemodynamic instability. Understanding these key echo findings and techniques will refine your reports and improve patient outcomes.

There is a saddle embolism at the bifurcation of the pulmonary artery.
