Subcostal and Suprasternal: Underrated but Essential
TTE Imaging Series, Part 5
The Final Chapter in the TTE Imaging Series
Welcome to the fifth and final installment of our comprehensive transthoracic imaging series. By now, you’ve navigated parasternal, apical, and Doppler imaging from every angle. In this article, we explore the subcostal and suprasternal windows, two views that may not always be acquired in every study but are critically important when needed. Each offers unique diagnostic value and can become the cornerstone of a study when traditional windows are limited.
Just a reminder: the views and sequence described in this series lay out a recommended transthoracic echocardiographic protocol, but they are intended as a guideline, not a strict rule. Always follow your lab’s local protocols and institutional policies, and adapt your imaging to the clinical question and patient condition.
