Diastolic function may be classified as indeterminate when using the flow chart that we included in our previous Diastology Lesson. Furthermore, assessment of mitral inflow velocities has to be done in the absence of the following conditions: atrial fibrillation, ventricular paced rhythm, LBBB, ≥ moderate mitral regurgitation or stenosis, ≥ moderate mitral annular calcification, or mitral valve repair/replacement. Mitral inflow velocities are used to estimate left atrial pressure (LAP), but the factors mentioned above, according to ASE guidelines, limit the ability to accurately measure and assess diastolic dysfunction.

P.S. The above case is a Mitral Valve Repair 🙂
